In this laboratory activity, you will learn about how DNA acts as instructions for the cell in sex determination. In this sequence of labs, you will isolate DNA, amplify it via PCR, run an electrophoresis gel, then analyze the DNA to look at the differences between males and females. Through this investigation, you will think about how big of a difference one gene can make.
This lab series will take you through some basic genetics as well as applications of the biotechnology that you are using in the lab. The techniques you use in this lab are critical in oncofertility bench research. Furthermore, you are learning about the genetic source of the differences between males and females. Ultimately the tiny genetic differences that you will analyze in this lab lead to the differences in the reproductive biology of humans.
